Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Hits Back Against Fake Nude Photo Smear

New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was only sworn in a week ago but she’s already endured some of the right-wing’s most bonkers attacks. They criticized her dancing, they attempted to create a scandal over her nickname (Sandy), and they’ve continually tried to rewrite her biography to undermine her populist cred. They keep coming at her and she keeps knocking ‘em down.

The latest unhinged smear comes from 4chan and Reddit where anonymous internet trolls passed around a photo of a woman’s legs in a bathtub and claimed it was Ocasio-Cortez. It was not. In reality, the legs belonged to Sydney Leathers, the woman disgraced Rep. Anthony Weiner was sexting with when he got busted, and it’s worth noting that she’s a victim in this as well.

The photo was debunked by a foot fetishist on Reddit using the website “Wikifeet,” which I’m sorry to inform you is a site dedicated to cataloging pictures of the feet of celebrities and really any notable woman.

Still, that didn’t stop the shameless right-wing Daily Caller from trying to get clicks from their AOC-obsessed fan base of horny, angry white guys.

“Heres The Photo Some People Described As A Nude Selfie Of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez” they tweeted before being shamed into deleting the tweet and changing the headline on the story. What they were trying to do is essentially launder the false claim and cash in on it at the same time. It’s pretty typical of the boring, sophomoric tactics the site relies on to make money.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez clapped back at their bullsh*t and noted there’s also a reporter pumping her boyfriend’s family for any other AOC dirt.

“Women in leadership face more scrutiny. Period,” she concluded. And it’s true, but especially true in her case. (It’s also worth noting that had this been an actual leaked photo of AOC it would have no bearing on her ability to do her job.)

She followed up with a tweet slamming the conservative rag and tying the unchecked misogyny in GOP circles to their support for accused sexual assaulter and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Given Republicans’ obsession with the freshman representative, you can expect to see more of these vile attacks in the future. The burning desire on the right to see any popular left-wing hero brought low will never be checked by shame, or curbed by intellectual honesty, or even influenced by reality.

We’ve seen this play out before with Barack Obama and the racist “birther” conspiracy theory (among other made-up smears). The right-wing fever swamp generates a false attack, cowardly Republicans refuse to shun those who advance it (and in many cases actively elevate them), the lies spread, the intellectual rot festers, and our politics break a little bit more.

It happens out in the open and it’s not going to stop until Republicans or their major media outlets decide to stop it.
