Right-Wing Troll’s Attempt To Smear Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez With A Video Of Her Dancing In College Backfires

On Wednesday, a never-before-seen video of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hit the Internet. In it, the college-aged Ocasio-Cortez does all the dances featured in 1985 cult classic, The Breakfast Club.

In the past 24 hours, right-wingers—both on YouTube and Twitter—have used the video as some sort of AOC “own,” as though the Congresswoman’s ability to nail ’80s film dance montages is evidence of her inefficiency as a politician and lawmaker.

Most notable is this tweet from a QAnon account—that’s the far-right conspiracy theory alleging the existence of a “deep state” against Donald Trump and his supporters—which posted the video and captioned it, “Here is America’s favorite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is…
…High School video of “Sandy” Ocasio-Cortez.”

Most of the reactions to the tweet were from befuddled individuals desperately trying to understand how this (tbh hella cute) video reflects on Ocasio-Cortez negatively in any way.

In fact, the tweet backfired, instead endearing (normal) people to AOC for being a normal, fun-loving, dancing young lady.

Maybe conservatives had confused New York with that town from another ’80s cult classic, Footloose?

Whatever the case, here’s to hoping QAnon and other right-wing personalities bring us a few more  “leaks” like this in 2019. Lord knows we can use them.

The original, unedited video featured other students and was a mashup of Phoenix’s track ‘Lisztomania’ with the Brat Pack’s dance moves. Also, it rules:
