If you’ve ever encountered a celebrity in the wild you know how strange it can be.
There’s a shared anxiety in any room containing a famous person and many non-famous people as everyone either peeks, pretends they’re not peeking, or else shamelessly sucks up to the individual, either out of some vague instinct that it will benefit them or simply to bask in their glow.
Navigating these interactions is a social and emotional minefield for the famous and non-famous alike and embarrassing celebrity moments turn out to be pretty common.
When Twitter user @yusufyuie asked people to share their most awkward or interesting celebrity encounters the responses did not disappoint.
What’s ya most awkward or interesting celebrity interaction you have had? Lol

Tom Hanks asked me how long I had been working at SNL.
I replied “Since the beginning of the semen… I mean season” and turned firetruck red.
Just as I thought “Now I have to go home and kill myself” he replied, “Matthew! That was so awkward it made me sperm! I mean SQUIRM!” https://t.co/7wLMG9m6RJ

Had a short person moment w/Danny DeVito in NYC. We bashed into each other walking in opposite directions. When you’re short you rarely make direct eye contact with anyone. We startled, then wordlessly laughed and hugged and went on with our business. My friend: “WTF was THAT?!”

I was drunk and saw Joaquin Phoenix, knowing he was Joaquin Phoenix, I turned to my friend and said under my breath in a really bad Brooklyn accent “oh my god is that Jack Black from the 2005 hit comedy School of Rock” and HE HEARD ME and death glared me for several seconds https://t.co/qs6DRLbmWl

Hunter S. Thompson came out of his house to yell at me that snowmobiles were for brain dead zombies. I was fourteen and it was summer.

I was in the line for TSA at JFK and Naomi Campbell is right next to me. The first words out of my mouth “I’ve never met a celebrity before” she shuts me down with “Honey I’m not a celebrity, I’m a supermodel” 😩 I was so embarrassed!

Met the extremely lovely Benedict Cumberbatch when he was filming Sherlock at my office. Later got told off by a member of the production crew for peeping at him topless 😂 pic.twitter.com/fFZ1Mdkl6n

I was outside a restaurant in Hollywood trying to pick up my take out order but couldn’t go in because I was with my puppy. Harry Styles saw my predicament, tapped me on the shoulder and said he could watch Oscar while I went in. What a guy pic.twitter.com/B5bQ7PQYdI
