Comedian Writes Viral Thread About Being Racially Profiled That’s Anything But Funny

It’s unfortunate that in 2019, racism is still such a huge problem in the United States, but there’s no denying that it is. People still judge others just on the basis of skin color, something people of color have had to deal with their entire lives.

White people can claim that they’re not racist, but their actions speak so much louder than their words. Comedian and Twitter user Milly Tamarez (@MillyTamarez) posted a thread detailing an incident of racial profiling she experienced while trying to browse a home decor shop in Great Barrington, MA, called One Mercantile.

Tamarez was initially excited to go to the store.

Who doesn’t love those fancy candles?

This is just rude and disrespectful.

The thing is, had the owners been better about having people of color in their store, they probably could have sold Tamarez so much stuff.

This sounds like terrible “customer service,” if you can even call it that.

As sad and upsetting as it is that this still happens, it’s important that people keep talking about it. It was brave of Tamarez to share her story and hopefully it will get more people examining the things that make them treat people the way they do.
