‘Empire’ Actor Jussie Smollett Reportedly Assaulted With A Noose And Bleach

In a shocking story first reported by TMZ, Jessie Smollett, an actor on the show Empire, was reportedly viciously assaulted in an apparent hate crime on Tuesday.

According to TMZ Smollett, who is black and gay, was attacked at 2 AM on Tuesday morning in Chicago by two men who yelled homophobic and racial slurs at him, reportedly saying “Aren’t you that f***ot ‘Empire’ n*****?” before physically attacking him.

According to TMZ, citing unnamed sources close to Smollett, Smollett’s assailants were wearing masks and poured bleach on him as well as put a noose around his neck during the assault.

They also reportedly shouted Donald Trump’s “MAGA” acronym.

The 2 men — both white and wearing ski masks — viciously attacked Jussie as he fought back, but they beat him badly and fractured a rib. They put a rope around his neck, poured bleach on him and as they left they yelled, “This is MAGA country.”

The Chicago Police Department has released a statement about the attack that cites the presence of a noose and also says:

“The offenders began to batter the victim with their hands about the face and poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim.” The report also says that Smollett “self-transported to Northwestern Hospital and is [in] good condition.”

The fact that Smollett’s attackers were reportedly wearing ski masks suggests that this wasn’t a random hate crime but rather a premeditated one.

Again according to TMZ, citing, Smollett had reportedly been sent hate mail in the weeks leading up to the attack with a letter sent to Fox Studios and addressed to Smollett reading “You will die black f*g” in cut-out magazine letters and seemingly depicting a lynching and a gun.

It’s a shocking and horrific story and more information is likely to soon come to light.
