Lesbians make every day of the year better, but October 8th is their day: International Lesbian Day. While 24 hours hardly seems like enough to celebrate women loving women, Twitter has given everyone a jump start. Under the hashtag #InternationalLesbianDay, lesbians are sharing their stories, their Pride, and their very adorable pictures.
We’re living in a time where protections for LGBTQ people are under attack from extremists, conservatives, and people in the government and on the Supreme Court. Things can feel very grim. That’s why it’s so important to stop and celebrate whenever possible, because a day without lesbians is like a day without sunshine:
The LGBTQIA community is always shifting and changing as notions of gender and sexual identity evolve. There are many identities even within being a “lesbian” and some people took the opportunity to speak out against trans-exclusionary radical feminists, or TERFs, who don’t want trans women to be considered lesbians if they date other women. Many cis couples, cis and trans couples, and singles of all sorts posted about their support and love of trans people under the lesbian umbrella. They also shouted out non-binary people, the gender fluid, and asexual people. Are you a lesbian? then get in here!
And look at these adorable couples:
Apparently it’s #InternationalLesbianDay so I will gladly accept this excuse to publicly love my gf and also to say that lesbian identity is being weaponised in a terrifying way, and I will always stand with our trans sisters in the face of hate #LwiththeT pic.twitter.com/OFAuDaY65T— Lucy Halton (@LucyHHalton) October 8, 2019
it’s #InternationalLesbianDay so I’m going to take today to celebrate all the things beautiful about loving women & being a Lesbian. I’m proud to be who I & love who I do. Also having a girlfriend just as beautiful & brilliant as I do is incredible. Stay proud & love loud! 💞🌈 pic.twitter.com/lz0zZY52U5— Sophie Armishaw 🌈 (@sophiearmishaw) October 8, 2019
Don’t worry, there are also plenty of single lesbians celebrating themselves and their love of other lesbians online (just in case you’re looking):
