John Oliver Slams Fox News For ‘False Flag’ Conspiracy Theories

On Sunday night’s episode of Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver blasted Fox News for promoting their inane and dangerous “false flag” theories about the pipe bombs sent to opponents of President Donald Trump.

“It has been a time for sober reflection,” Oliver began. “Or, if you are Fox News discussing those package bombs, a time for wild speculation.” Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

He continued, “Before the suspect was even arrested, they were giving air time to a truly ludicrous theory.” Oliver then showed his viewers clips of different Fox News people calling the pipe bombs a “false flag,” including Geraldo Rivera, who actually said, “at the risk of sounding like a far right-wing lunatic, I believe this whole thing was an elaborate hoax.” Nope, risk not averted.

Oliver’s take on that was, “Here is the thing about that: Sounding like a far right-wing lunatic is not really a risk for the Fox News brand, is it? It’s more of a guarantee. It would be like if Tony Bennett started every song with ‘At the risk of making your grandma wet.’ What are you talking about Tony?! We all know that’s going to happen. It’s specifically what you’re here to do!”

Oh god, gross. And yet, accurate.
