Kanye West is many things: A self-proclaimed genius, a self-proclaimed god, and a self-proclaimed Trump supporter.
West’s support for Trump has been loud and proud and he’s been embraced by Trump in return even as his many liberal fans have recoiled.
But Kanye’s love affair with MAGA World has been a strange one. Initially it seemed like a contrarian impulse: Everyone else was wrong about Trump, but Ye, the genius, was bravely going his own way…even if that meant supporting a narcissistic hate-monger.
There were surreal moments, like Kanye and Trump’s White House sit-down, but then there was a rift and Kanye distanced himself from the MAGA scam artists who, in his own words, “used him” for their own gain.
But now it’s a new year and Kanye seems to be miraculously back in the Trumpian fold, tweeting a series of defiant references to Trump and that cherry red MAGA hat we’re all so sick of.
He started simply by tweeting “Trump all day” in case anyone was confused.
Kanye followed the tweet with a series of dragon emojis, an apparent reference to the “Dragon Energy” he has complimented Trump on having.
That defiant, contrarian impulse seems to be taking the lead again with Kanye seemingly part of the crowd who actually believe that Donald Trump is “punk rock” simply because he is an unconventional politician.
The fact that he’s unconventional because he’s overtly bellicose, erratic, racist, sexist, hateful, greedy, and vain doesn’t seem to matter.
Plus Kanye really loves that hat.
Yes “free thinkers” should love a man who constantly degrades the free press and believes that the media should be silenced when it says things he doesn’t like.
West doubled down, saying that the doofy red MAGA hat represented freedom and personal agency to him whereas it represents the desire to build a massive honking wall to everyone else.
People often complain that Kanye is likely suffering from mental illness and therefore shouldn’t be ridiculed for his many outlandish statements but powerful, public figures will always been scrutinized for their behavior, particularly those who seek out attention and controversy as actively as Kanye does.
People have opinions on his opinions.
Kanye you officially on mute 🤐

Kanye West is free to support whoever he wishes but it’s the hypocrisy evident in his views that’s most striking as people are forced to wonder how a self-proclaimed visionary like West reconciles his support for the most divisive president in recent memory with sentiments like his other New Year’s message, which was to: “Love everyone. Start the year clean. Just be [ ] All love”.
Y’all let me know how many “second chances” you’re giving this idiot. Because I thought we were leaving negativity in 2018. That includes Kanye. https://t.co/qgzLV3iXs4
