Video Shows Man Getting Kicked Out Of A Coffee Shop For Verbally Harassing A Muslim Customer

Starbucks might be in hot water right now, thanks to a recent string of incident involving employees exhibiting racist behavior — but, it’s important to note that there are coffee shops out there actively combatting this kind of bigotry.

Recently, a Muslim woman was standing behind a white man at a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Riverside, California. When the man began to verbally lambast the woman for being Muslim, she began filming him on her phone. The footage was later posted to Twitter, where it garnered over 1.7 million views by Tuesday morning.

“Is this Halloween or something?” the man asks in the video, presumably referring to the woman’s niqab.

The man made several more derogatory comments before the woman asked why he disliked her religion.

“I don’t like it because I don’t like your religion. It says to kill me, and I don’t want to be killed by you, how’s that?” the man responded.

“Are you scared of me?” the woman asked.

“No,” the man replied, directly contradicting his own statements.

The man eventually revealed that he is a Christian (shocker), and the woman tried to engage him in a conversation about what religious texts say about killing people who disagree with them. The man then told the woman “I don’t have any conversation with idiots.”

“You are committing hate speech,” the woman replied.

Another customer offscreen yelled in support of the woman, saying, “Get out of here, f**king racist.”

“F**k you. Shut the f**k up,” the man told the other customer.

When the man eventually reached the register, the barista, who turned out to be the manager on duty, refused to offer him service, as he was “disrupting a public place and being very racist.”

In a statement, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf fully backed the employee’s decision, saying, “We have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to discrimination of any kind and have the right to refuse service to any person who makes customers or team members feel endangered in any way.”
