A mother who gave her daughter up for adoption years ago is finally going to meet her now-teenage child and she can’t contain her excitement.
The mother shared her story and screenshots of her texts with her daughter on Imgur, writing “I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it so I’m sharing it with the world…”
Her daughter invited both her biological mom and her daughter (the girl’s biological sister) up to visit her at college and her mom was as gung-ho as only a mom can be.
On Imgur the mom expounded on her excitement, writing, “The wait is finally over. In just a little over a week I will hold my daughter in my arms for the first time in 18 years and my little family will finally be complete.”
She proposed that she come alone this time for some one-on-one time and her daughter agreed, adding that she planned to hang out with her newfound sister a lot now that they were all reunited.
The unnamed mother gave her daughter up for adoption in what’s known as an “open adoption.” As opposed to a closed adoption in which biological parent and child have no relationship and may even have zero information about each others whereabouts, an open adoption allows for varying degrees of a relationship to exist between the biological parent and child.
This may include simply knowledge of who the biological parent is or even include communication and visits, as was the case here.
On Imgur, the mom in this story wrote that giving her daughter up was “the hardest decision I’ve ever made” but knows she did the right thing and is thrilled with how things worked out.
“Having an open adoption was the hardest decision I’ve ever made. However, at the same time it was also one of the best and the most selfless decision I’ve ever made. At that point in my life it was the right thing to do. Just because I could have given her all the love in the world doesn’t mean I could have given her the life she deserved and the life I wanted her to have. So instead, I chose two trustworthy people that could and would give her an amazing life. In return they made sure I was still able to watch her grow up and she would know who I am. I wish every soul on this planet could experience this kind of high. It’s beautiful. This is worth every single tear I’ve cried and the pain that caused those tears to fall.”
Congratulations rolled in as people reacted to the touching story and, in some cases, shared their own experiences with adoption.
My cynical news brain is trying very hard to think of something sarcastic to say here but sometimes stuff is just…good…ya know?
