Nancy Pelosi Literally Clapped Back At Trump And Twitter Made Some Memes

The highlight of Tuesday night’s State of the Union address wasn’t President Donald Trump’s words (of which there were certainly many), it was when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi clapped at Trump in the most sarcastic way possible. Can a person clap sarcastically? Well, Nancy Pelosi can, anyway.

Pelosi’s clapping was in response to Trump’s call for unity, when he said, “We must reject the politics of revenge, resistance and retribution, and embrace the boundless potential of cooperation, compromise and the common good.”

That sentiment was somewhat surprising, given Trump’s proclivity for tweeting insults at anyone who he feels has wronged him somehow. Or, for example, earlier that same day, when Trump had given a pre-speech luncheon in which he allegedly insulted multiple people, according to HuffPost.

In a tweet, comedian Patton Oswalt credited Pelosi with “inventing the ‘f*ck you’ clap.”

Here’s a tweet that shows the actual clip.

The photograph of the clap went viral, and memes quickly began to appear on Twitter.

It’s like she’s telling a five year old boy what a good job he’s done.
