While he lost the 2016 Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont has emerged as the early frontrunner of the 2020 Democratic field with a strong base of support and fundraising that has far outstripped that of his opponents.
Sanders’ tireless and straightforward message about income inequality has resonated widely with a populace tired of losing out while the wealthiest members of American society continue to enrich themselves beyond all reason.
Now in a new ad the Sanders campaign has taken aim at Donald Trump for promises he made to Ohio autoworkers and failed to keep. Trump told workers that he would bring jobs back, but instead General Motors shut down plants.
The ad is emotional and devastating and makes it crystal clear that Trump lied to workers to gain their votes.
Trump promised to fight for American workers. He lied. Americans deserve a president who will. pic.twitter.com/QKEHlKqg3H— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) April 20, 2019
Beyond that it hammers home the message that our president is an out-of-touch millionaire who doesn’t care about ordinary Americans, something Trump’s own actions, like shutting down the federal government while employees suffered, have proven.
The ad is being praised for hitting Trump where it hurts…right in the base.
This is a great ad and a powerful message https://t.co/ATg7PHn9tg— Jon Favreau (@jonfavs) April 20, 2019

This is a smart way to go after Trump. https://t.co/uscvGwJbzO— Ben Rhodes (@brhodes) April 20, 2019
Not just this. On manufacturing jobs. On opioids. On health care. On farm exports & trade. He’s the incumbent now, and he made a bunch of promises he hasn’t done anything on or straight did the opposite. Go after the record— Joseph Robbins (@thaetan) April 20, 2019
Glad we took Bernie To Lordstown last week.. he is so on target on this— Randi Weingarten (@rweingarten) April 20, 2019
The brilliance of this Bernie Sanders ad is it is a general election ad. Trump’s the target. Team Bernie is reassuring Democratic primary voters he has what it takes to go one-on-one with Trump. It addresses the Jim Messina objections. #NotMeUs #NotMeUs pic.twitter.com/ZJheICU9lR— 🌹 Clark Feels The Bern (@Clarknt67) April 20, 2019
#Ohio is where I was born. It's where most of my family & many friends live. It will always be "home".— TrekkerTeach (@trekkerteach12) April 20, 2019
This #Lordstown #GM worker's courage to stick around, organize & fight back is inspiring. It's time to stop thinking about offshoring & plant-closings as inevitable.#NotMeUS https://t.co/r2biWiXn2w
Hey #MAGA peeps... TIRED of the LIES yet??? Your savior #Trump gave a tax break to the top1%. That's it. He does not care about you. Deep down you know that now. #VoteBlueToSaveAmerica #VoteBlue2020 https://t.co/TRz4L1NbkM— Christian Reda (@BuyMyScript) April 20, 2019

Bernie or not, this is how the Democrats will win. Forget impeachment--look ahead, and as @PeteButtigieg says, beat Pres Dumbass and his complicit minions the old-fashioned way. https://t.co/jWxxD1WtJB— Liz Joss (@indylizard) April 20, 2019
