New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft praised Donald Trump in a recent interview with Fox & Friends saying that he thinks Trump is “working very hard” despite all the evidence suggesting that Trump basically sits around all day livetweeting cable TV.
Talking with Fox’s Brian Kilmeade ahead of Sunday’s Superbowl LIII showdown between the Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams Kraft spoke primarily about football but then was asked about Trump, who he has a cosy relationship with.
Kilmeade referenced a Trump tweet, saying:
“Clearly he’s pulling for you guys. What does that feel like?” to which Kraft replied “Well we can use every fan who wants to support us from wherever they are in their standard of life.”
Asked by Kilmeade if Trump had called him recently to give him any advice Kraft said:
“He’s been very supportive and I know he’s working very hard to serve the best interests of the country.”
Kraft then went on to lavish praise on FOX founder Rupert Murdoch at which point viewers could be forgiven for vomiting with rage.
As the Huffington Post’s Lee Moran points out Kraft has rightly criticized Trump over his comments on NFL players who choose to kneel during the National Anthem in a protest against police brutality.
That said he remains a big Trump supporter, and financial backer, much to the consternation of millions of football-watching liberals in New England who have to deal with the cognitive dissonance of the owner of the football team they love and its star quarterback Tom Brady being die-hard Trump fans.
Anyway the big dumb game is tomorrow and we hope that one plucky group of millionaires beats the other plucky group of millionaires.
