In a normal timeline, the tangled web of sex scandals that our current President is embroiled in would be enough to make most God-fearing folk clutch their pearls in dismay — however, in our current Garbage Timeline, many in the staunchly conservative religious community are finding every possible opportunity to blindly support Donald Trump, despite his morally ambiguous track record.
This hypocrisy has not gone unnoticed, and one Republican lawmaker recently called out Trump supporters for their unwavering fanaticism.
Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Penn.) appeared on Anderson Cooper 360° on Tuesday and discussed the moral implications of the president’s troubling past affair with adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

“I don’t know how many in the evangelical community can reconcile some of their positions at this moment,” Dent admitted.
Cooper asked Dent what the response from the evangelical community would be if “the shoe were on the other foot” and President Barack Obama had been involved in a similar scandal.
“They’d be waving a bloody shirt,” Dent replied. “It’d be a human rights violation had it been the shoe on the other foot.”
Dent also mentioned Bill Clinton’s sex scandal in the ’90s, and how wildly different the response was.
“A lot of folks were pretty darn alarmed and outraged and had a strong voice about it, saying ‘character counts,’” he recalled. “Now that the shoe’s on the other foot, a lot of those same folks are pretty d*mn silent.”
Dent is likely more open to making these criticisms since he is one of the Republicans not seeking reelection in 2018. However, he warned that midterm elections will likely bring forth a reckoning for all of the Republican hypocrisy.
“These issues will have an impact.”
