Scarlett Johansson has reached a point in her celebrity where she no longer cares what anyone says about her, which is necessary because they’re saying a lot of things right now. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, she happily admitted to loving and believing Woody Allen. She believes men and isn’t afraid to say it.
The interviewer asked her how she felt about Allen, now that he is commonly known to be the alleged rapist of his daughter Dylan Farrow. Farrow has spoken very clearly and openly about Allen’s inappropriate behavior with her from a young age that escalated to an assault. She was particularly vocal about it at the outset of the #MeToo movement and the organization of Time’s Up in Hollywood, a group that is supposedly meant to protect victims from sexual predators in the film industry. Johansson is an active member. And yet.
“How do I feel about Woody Allen?” she replied. “I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime.”
She went on:
“I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”
When asked if this is in conflict with #MeToo and her own activism, she replied, “It’s hard because it’s a time where people are very fired up, and understandably. Things needed to be stirred up, and so people have a lot of passion and a lot of strong feelings and are angry, and rightfully so. It’s an intense time.”
Strong and weird choice, Scarlett Johansson.
Dylan Farrow has responded in a pretty simple and graceful way:
Because if we’ve learned anything from the past two years it’s that you definitely should believe male predators who “maintain their innocence” without question. Scarlett has a long way to go in understanding the issue she claims to champion. https://t.co/S1NmttL9tJ— Dylan Farrow (@RealDylanFarrow) September 5, 2019
(And my apologies in advance for disrupting her google alerts again)

And left the rest of the internet to drag Black Widow:
Scarlett Johansson vehemently defending Woody Allen, further solidifying herself as one of the worst people working in Hollywood. You really hate to see it. pic.twitter.com/h8uRp1BWSo— Seafood By Antoinne (@yosoymichael) September 4, 2019
I really want to like Scarlett Johanson, but I just can't agree with the fact that she wants to defend Woody Allen... pic.twitter.com/oEBBfMRL9R— Nikki B. (@flybaby014563) September 4, 2019
It’s totally her prerogative to support whoever and whatever she wants. Just like it’s our prerogative to do the same. My money won’t be going to anything Woody Allen or Scarlett Johansson. If enough ppl do that, they’ll both be shut down. https://t.co/dPoaQMrEyZ— S. Marlene Wimberly (@2BGMEDIA) September 5, 2019
At this point, I think the only identity Scarlett Johansson hasn’t tried to culturally appropriate is a person with integrity.— Charlotte Clymer🏳️🌈 (@cmclymer) September 4, 2019

i think scarlett johansson signed a contract with an eldritch god that made it so that in order for her to have a career, she has to give catastrophically bad takes on a regular basis for the rest of her life— SungWon Cho (@ProZD) September 4, 2019

Anyone notice how Scarlett Johansson—a woman who feels entitled to take roles portraying minorities and now openly supports accused sexual abusers—is the highest paid actress in white-male dominated Hollywood?— Adrienne Lawrence - IG: @AdrienneLawrence (@AdrienneLaw) September 5, 2019
I'm not saying carrying water pays well but I thought I'd ask.
Johansson has a number of movies coming out which was a big part of why she got this huge interview. If she really believes and loves Woody Allen, she probably thought she was taking a huge stand for him and sinking her PR tour on his behalf. Hope he pays her back with more roles in his canceled Amazon deal.
