Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane hit out against anti-vaxxers on Saturday after an unvaccinated child in Oregon became the state’s first pediatric tetanus case in 30 years.
According to a story in The New York Times that MacFarlane shared, the boy suffered an enormous ordeal, spending 57 painful days in the hospital, including a month on a ventilator, and racking up a hospital bill of $800,000, all due to suffering a cut on his forehead…and not having been given the tetanus vaccine.
MacFarlane is clearly out of patience for those who choose not to vaccinate their children, pointing out that not doing so threatens both their lives and the lives of others.
How many times must it be said: Folks, VACCINATE YOUR KIDS. If you don’t, you’re not only putting their lives at risk, but you’re also risking the lives of people who cannot be immunized for medical reasons. Get educated, and stop consuming misinformation.https://t.co/9fE2FInt8s

Vaccinations have been in the news a lot lately, in part due to entirely avoidable measles outbreaks plaguing parts of the country.
There was also the remarkable case of Ethan Lindenberger, a previously-unvaccinated teenager who got vaccinated against his parents’ wishes at 18 and who recently testified before Congress about the problem.
There were a lot of people in MacFarlane’s corner on the issue, and hopefully most of them are vaccinated.

Thank you. I appreciate you posting this.

You made my day. https://t.co/aoxIusqoL6

Crystals, positive thinking, praying and essential oils will not save your kids life. Not vaccinating your kid is child abuse.

I just can't understand how full grown adults can possibly believe that magic rocks and flower oils can protect them from diseases. Total suspension of logic and rational thinking.

£800,000 medical bill because you're not smart enough to get your kids vaccinated 🙄 https://t.co/mo2PuCipLd

As a mother of an autistic boy it enrages me that people would prefer to risk their children’s lives than accept the fictitious threat of autism from vaccines. And when other “autism mums” tell me they wouldn’t vaccinate if they had another child I want to scream.

Well said Seth, vaccinating should be a no brainer. Smallpox has been eradicated because of immunizations. Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Polio are potentially eradicable. This is a technology we should take advantage of. https://t.co/w9ZbEP09dF

PLEASE, Vaccinate against tetanus. I have had an adult patient with tetanus. She spent her days in an ICU on a ventilator and on dialysis and had multiple organ failures. She died. The child who survived is very lucky indeed. https://t.co/iWw8TfoTqi
