NFL season may be over, but professional athletes are not done speaking out against the president’s policies and lack of legislative action concerning minority communities. Naturally, Trump’s supporters are fighting back in turn.
One such athlete was NBA Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James, who participated in a widely-seen video released last Thursday in which he denounced the president, saying that the guy with the “No. 1 job in America” is “someone who doesn’t understand the people and really don’t give a f— about the people.”
This infuriated avid Trumpeteer and Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who took to her show in a veritable fury to spew a favorite conservative argument: Athletes/entertainers should stick to sports/entertainment (unless they are of the conservative variety, in which case welcome to the White House, KID ROCK.)
“Must they run their mouths like that? Unfortunately, a lot of kids — and some adults — take these ignorant comments seriously. And it’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid a hundred million dollars a year to bounce a ball. Oh, and LeBron and Kevin [Durant]: You’re great players, but no one voted for you … So keep the political commentary to yourself or, as someone once said, shut up and dribble.”
Shut up and dribble! Wow!
This last comment brought all the boys to the yard, and by “all the boys” I mean Philadelphia Eagles lineman Chris Long, who took to his Twitter to blast a bunch of (conservative) dudes who, by Ingraham’s own logic, should stick to their proverbial courts and dribble.
“I’ll be replying to my own tweet with a collage of your network allowing political commentary from a few folks,” Long wrote in his kickoff:
First up, ANACONDA GUY/actor/father of Angelina Jolie, Jon Voight:
MUSICIAN/Ex-Boyfriend of Pam Anderson and Lyrical Genius Behind Classic Hit ‘Bawitdaba,’ Kid Rock:
BASKETBALL COACH/Chair Thrower Extraordinare, Bobby Knight:
Walker Texas Ranger/Climate Change Denier, CHUCK NORRIS:
Psychotic animal killer/NRA lackey, TED NUGENT:
Decent Actor/Terrible Filmmaker CLINT EASTWOOD:
OH AND LEST WE FORGET, THE PRESIDENT IS A LITERAL D-LIST CELEBRITY REALITY TV STAR.
Long concluded the Twitter thread by asking about the “prerequisite” for talking politics:
I’m sure the network she works for has interviewed a bunch of athletes, just couldn’t find the screenshots quickly. The point is, what’s the prerequisite for who can talk politics? So, Fox News folks who agree with Laura... you okay with these segments?— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) February 16, 2018
And taking one last jab (ha) at noted climate change denier Norris, while still defending his right to a wrong opinion:
And if you reply “stick to sports,” you should probably tune of out Fox News because they’ve got karate guys talking climate change on there. (Which I’m cool with... it’s his right.) Unless it’s just about you needing to feel like you’ve got control of athletes like Lebron.— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) February 16, 2018
King James replied to Ingraham’s comment with this tweet:
To which the Fox News host offered an invitation to her show:
We hope she’s not awaiting that RSVP too eagerly.
