It’s tough to be young and away from home because that’s where all your beloved childhood pets live. And your family, too, I guess. But we miss our doggos and kitty cats the most! A guy named Jack McCrossan and three of his friends were living together in Bristol in an apartment where the landlord would not allow any animals and things were getting desperate.
Jack posted about how these desperate times led to them contacting their neighbor, who had an adorable dog they longed to pet. He shared some pics of their messages back and forth with this caption:
Been saying we’d love a dog about the house but our landlord doesn’t allow pets, so my housemate posted a letter to our neighbours asking if we could walk their dog every once and a while and the response was better than we could have ever hoped for

In their letter to their neighbor, they wrote that they were four engineers who just got to the area a few months ago. They’d noticed their next-door pup, because she was watching them out the window as they got home from work:
If you ever need someone to walk him/her, we will gladly do so. If you ever get bored (we know you never will, but we can dream) we are more than happy to look after him/her. If you want to come over and bring him/her to brighten our day, you are more than welcome. If you want to walk past our balcony windows so we can see him/her, please do.
They added that if this seemed like too much, it was because they missed having a pet. “The adult life is a struggle without one,” they wrote.
The response is much better than you could possibly imagine because it came from the actual dog (though was written by a human named Sarah Tolman, according to Buzzfeed). The dog is named Stevie Ticks, and they were very pleased to receive a letter:
“What a treat it was to receive your letter. On the subject of treats, I like them a LOT. Big ones and meaty ones and cheesy ones….oh sorry…where was I?!” the letter begins.
It ended with an invitation to hang out with Stevie whenever the fellas are free:
I love meeting new people and it would be great if we can be friends. I must warn you that the price of my friendship is 5 x ball throws a day and belly scritches whenever I demand them….We here understand how hard it is to find pet friendly rentals — and life just isn’t full without a dog in it — right?! I’d love to hang whenever you fancy.
The envelope also had Stevie’s official signature, so you know it’s legit:
And it did eventually happen that the four boys and one dog did meet:

Tolman spoke with Buzzfeed and said Stevie did go over for a playdate, and it sounded like things went swimmingly.
“We could hear her thundering around through the walls, and she obviously enjoyed herself, as when they dropped her back home she sat whining at the door and window for hours afterwards,” she said. Stevie ain’t loyal!
But she is famous now, gaining over 13,000 followers on Instagram due to her viral fame. Tolman says it hasn’t gone to her head.
“We keep telling her how many people are following her and interested in her relationship with her new boyfriends, but she just keeps giving me her paw for treats,” said Tolman. “We obviously know that Stevie is a very special hound, but we love that she has brought so much joy and love to so many people. I think everyone just needs a reminder every now and then that humanity is found in the small things.”
And if you can get four free dog walkers out of it, even better!
