Tomi Lahren Got Dunked On After Going After Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama is currently on a media blitz for her upcoming memoir, Becoming, where she discusses her upbringing, personal life, and time as First Lady. In the book, Obama says former First Lady Laura Bush offered her advice and guidance navigating her new role. During a recent interview with ABC News, Obama revealed she extended the same offer to her successor, Melania Trump. She also said Melania Trump hasn’t taken her up on that offer.

“Has [Melania Trump] reached out and asked?” Robin Roberts asked.

“No, no she hasn’t.” Obama answered.

“Mrs. Trump is a strong and independent woman who has been navigating her role as First Lady in her own way,” Melania Trump’s spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement to CNN, “When she needs advice on any issue, she seeks it from her professional team within the White House.”

Ok, the response seems a little prickly, but icy, overly defensive statements are standard operating procedure for this White House. Guess we can all move on, right?

Unfortunately not. You see, flailing Fox News shouter Tomi Lahren heard about the Obama interview and she did not like the insinuation that Melania Trump… doesn’t ask for help? I don’t know.

First of all, Lahren’s claim that Michelle Obama was “upset” about Melania Trump’s reluctance to ask for advice is completely unfounded. The above is Obama’s full quote. All she did was honestly answer a direct question from an interviewer, something that, while alien to conservatives, doesn’t constitute feeling “upset.”

Secondly, the “ruin school lunches” thing is a reference to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which mandated stricter nutritional standards for school lunches, including more fruit and whole grains and less sodium. What a monster! (Also, I think we can all agree that aside from classic “pizza rectangle with pepperoni cubes,” school lunches have always left something to be desired.)

Finally, Michelle Obama also did work on behalf of veterans through her Joining Forces initiative, which pushes to alleviate the scourges of homelessness and unemployment in the veteran community. I know it’s not using American troops as props in a racist fear-mongering political stunt, but it should still be the kind of thing a self-proclaimed troop-lover like Lahren can get behind.

Anyway, by launching herself into the middle of an imaginary FLOTUS-fight, Lahren earned the ire of Twitter users eager to dunk on her, once again.

Anyway, kudos for Tomi Lahren for creating another baseless controversy and inserting herself right in the middle of it. I’m sure Melania Trump appreciates the effort to keep her ineptitude as FLOTUS in the news and Michelle Obama probably appreciates the free publicity for her memoir.  Oh well, at least Tomi finally stuck up for an immigrant!
