Internet Explodes After Trump Responds To Jussie Smollett Hoax

After remaining conspicuously silent on Twitter as the news broke that a racist Coast Guard officer had been plotting to assassinate top Democrats, Trump reappeared like acne on Thursday to comment insteadΒ on the Jussie Smollett case.

Smollett, an actor on the show Empire, alleged that he’d been the victim of a racist and homophobic assault last month but is now accused of staging the attack himself and is facing charges.

Trump tweeted at Smollett, saying “what about MAGA and the tens of millions of people you insulted with your racist and dangerous comments!? #MAGA”

While the hoax that Smollett appears to have orchestrated is certainly a detestable act that may cause harm and distress both to those who supported him and to those who suffer actual hate crimes, the sight of Donald Trump accusing someone else of racism was too much hypocrisy for many to bear.

People were quick to remind Trump of his own record on race.

They also wondered why he was commenting on this and not the white supremacist Coast Guard officer who was just discovered to have been plotting mass murder.
