Today is the 22nd day of the partial government shutdown which officially makes it the longest shutdown in United States history.
A dubious honor to say the least.
Government shutdowns have become an increasingly common phenomenon in recent years as partisan gridlock has worsened in Washington but even in this category Trump proved he’s the worst by presiding over the longest shutdown ever in a desperate attempt to get his wall, which left people shaking their heads in disgust and sent Twitter into a rage.

"LONGEST GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IN US HISTORY," the CNN banner says. The embarrassment continues.— Brian Stelter (@brianstelter) January 12, 2019
Good morning America! You are waking up to our country’s longest shutdown c/o a man who was willing to sell our country’s interest to line his pockets with $$ from Trump Tower Moscow, and was installed by a foreign adversary to take our country down. And a GOP that does nothing.— Amy Siskind 🏳️🌈 (@Amy_Siskind) January 12, 2019
Attention spans may be shorter than ever but no one has forgotten who owns this shutdown…since Trump announced he was owning it just a month ago saying “I will be the one to shut it down.”

Trump: If we don't get what we want ... I will shut down the government ... I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I'm not going to blame you for it. pic.twitter.com/z1ptWR6woK
7. He’s really bad at this whole being president thing.
As of today, this shutdown is the longest in history.— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) January 12, 2019
The costs are already high: People are missing paychecks, losing business, or working without pay. Our national parks are overrun with trash. The FDA and FBI warn of the harm to our food safety and national security.
President Trump now presides over largest deficit in our history, the longest shutdown in our history, the biggest drop in International trust of America in our history, etc. Making history as opposed to making america great which is why at this point has historic low approval.— Matthew Dowd (@matthewjdowd) January 12, 2019
Congratulations to Donald Trump— Nate Lerner (@NathanLerner) January 12, 2019

Trump, under investigation for working for Russia, is responsible for the longest shutdown in our history, ignoring his own administration's climate change warning, civil rights abuses & a host of corrupt or inept officials. Russia's foreign policy goal is to disrupt our country. https://t.co/UqQnKsIPS1— Joyce Alene (@JoyceWhiteVance) January 12, 2019
