This Thread Documents All The Trump-Backed Candidates Who Lost In The Midterms

Trump acted today as though the Republicans that won their bids for reelection during the midterm elections had him to thank for their wins. That may be the case for some of them, but Trump giving his endorsement isn’t necessarily a good thing. And during a press conference today, Trump blamed the Republicans who lost for not fully embracing him or wanting his endorsement. But many of the people Trump did endorse went on to lose. As we all know, Trump doesn’t always adhere to reality, so one Twitter user took the time to get the receipts.

Ally Maynard, a TV writer and producer, got screenshots of all of Trump’s tweets endorsing Republicans. She tweeted that Trump backed 11 Republicans running for governor, 31 for seats in the House, and 13 for Senate. Her plan was to let him know when anyone lost, despite his having given his endorsement. And she happily followed through.

Republican Jim Renacci was “crushed” by Sherrod Brown in the Ohio Senate race.

Trump’s choice, Leah Vukmir, lost to the only out lesbian in the U.S. Senate, Tammy Baldwin.

In the New Jersey Senate race, Trump endorsed Bob Hugin, who lost to Democrat Bob Menendez.

Trump wanted a win for Keith Rothfus, but he lost to Conor Lamb.

Joe Manchin beat Trump’s choice, Patrick Morrissey, in West Virginia’s Senate race.

Republican Kevin Yoder lost to lawyer and former-MMA fighter Sharice Davids, making her the first Native American women to be elected to Congress (the other is Deb Haaland).

Laura Kelly won the race for Kansas governor, beating out the Trump-endorsed Kris Kobach.

Republican Dan Donovan, for whom Trump even recorded a robocall, lost New York’s 11th congressional district to Democrat Max Rose.

Despite getting Trump’s “Strong Endorsement,” Republican Erik Paulsen lost to Dean Phillips.

Randy Hultgren got Trump’s endorsement but lost his seat to Lauren Underwood, making her the first black woman to win her Illinois district.

Trump’s chosen candidate, Rod Blum, was beaten by Abby Finkenauer in Iowa’s 1st congressional district.

The list goes on, and you can see all of them by following Maynard’s thread here.

Clearly Trump’s endorsement isn’t worth as much as he wants it to be.
