White Man Calls The Cops On Black Family For Swimming In Their Own Pool

It keeps happening! White people keep calling the cops on black people engaging in comically banal activities — and the cops keep showing up!

On Wednesday, a white man in North Carolina called the authorities when he saw a black family swimming in the neighborhood pool. He didn’t believe they were wealthy enough to live in the community, created a narrative in his own mind where they borrowed(/stole) a pool access card, and took it upon himself to snitch.

“This is a classic case of racial profiling in my half a million $$ neighborhood pool,” wrote Jasmine Edwards in a caption alongside a video she posted to Facebook. “This happened to me and my baby today.”

The man, identified by The Winston-Salem Journal as one Adam Bloom, tells Edwards she needs an ID to swim in the pool. He explains that he asks people for their IDs all the time, painfully unaware that he lacks both authority and a life. When Edwards asks Bloom where it is written than an ID is necessary, he gestures vaguely in the direction of the pool.

One of the officers then tells Bloom that if Edwards “has a card to get in the pool I believe that that should be enough.” He replies, “Ok, let’s see if it works.” Off-camera, a woman can be heard saying, “I didn’t sign in,” as the officer tests Edwards’ card to make sure it works.

“Alright ma’am,” the officer says to Edwards. “I apologize for the time and the altercation that occurred.” When the woman asks Bloom to apologize, he remains silent, ignoring her. He does continue speaking with the officer, who asks if pool cards are handed out to all residents. “Yeah, they kind of make their way around,” said Bloom. “But that’s good enough for me today.”

Edwards again asks Bloom if he wants to apologize. Once again, he ignores her. However his behavior was not without consequence. On Thursday, the Glenridge Homeowners Association issued an apology and announced that Adam Bloom was no longer the pool’s chairman and board member.

“The pool chair escalated a situation in a way that does not reflect the inclusive values Glenridge seeks to uphold as a community,” they wrote in a statement.

On Friday morning, Bloom’s employer announced that he had been fired.

This is the latest of several racial profiling incidents that have made news in recent weeks, and not even the only pool-related one. Black people have had the cops called on them for barbecuingselling water bottles, mowing a lawn, and smoking a cigarette.

Luckily, the racists responsible for calling authorities no longer get away without some sort of repercussions. #PermitPetty was forced to resign from her job, #PoolPatrolPaula was arrested for assault, and #IDAdam — besides losing his job — will eventually have to answer to his children about the day he tried to kick a black family out of the neighborhood swimming pool.
